Community Voice / Lleisiau Lleol

Graham Brand from the Big Lottery Fund spoke about the Community Voice programme, which is making £12 million available to support citizens to have a greater influence over policies and decisions affecting their community. Applications will be led by County Voluntary Councils, who will develop portfolios of between 5 and 10 community-led projects in their area. Each project will help local communities to have their voices heard.

The programme aims to build the capacity of citizens to engage in planning and running services and projects that respond to their communities’ needs.

All projects will be expected to meet at least two of the following short-term outcomes:
  • a greater number of citizens are able to influence policy and decisions about services in their community
  • communities and service providers work together to design and deliver improved services
  • communities have an increased capacity to conceive and deliver better services and projects
And both of the following long-term outcomes before the end of the project:
  • improved engagement and participation in the community
  • citizen’s report improved delivery of services, which meet their needs more effectively

  • gallu cynyddol gan gymunedau i synio a chyflenwi gwell gwasanaethau a phrosiectau
A’r ddau ganlyniad hirdymor canlynol cyn diwedd y prosiect:
  • gwell ymgysylltiad a chyfranogiad yn y gymuned
  • adroddiad dinasyddion yn gwella’r broses o gyflenwi gwasanaethau, sy’n diwallu eu hanghenion yn fwy effeithiol

When the going gets tough / Beth i’w wneud pan mae pethau’n mynd yn anodd?

This workshop from Alain Thomas looked at developing participants’ confidence and ability to respond to several types of difficult situations they may encounter in meetings, or in group discussions that they may run as part of an engagement process.

Participants looked at:
  • the facilitation skills needed to respond to difficult situations
  • a range of techniques to reduce disagreement and promote consensus within a group
  • longer term responses to the kind of deeply ingrained barriers to engagement that may create difficult situations

Pictures rather than words / Lluniau yn hytrach na geiriau

This workshop from Lynne Morris and Samantha Davies of Cartrefi Cymru focused on using a participatory technique that is not dependent on literacy skills.

They used the example of healthy lifestyles to ensure that service users are aware of the choices available around following a healthy lifestyle and the benefits of following this.

A waistcoat that carried an extra stone in weight was used to show participants how it felt to carry around excess weight. An eatwell plate was used to look at healthy eating, and cards with the names of different foods got attendees thinking about which food groups they belonged to. A discussion was also had around the use of Talking Mats.

Defnyddir gwasgod a oedd yn cario stôn ychwanegol mewn pwysau i ddangos i gyfranogwyr sut roedd e’n teimlo. Defnyddir plât 'eatwell' i edrych ar fwyta’n iach, a chardiau gydag enwau bwydydd gwahanol i gael mynychwyr i feddwl amdano ba grwpiau bwyd roedden nhw’n perthyn â. Roedd yna hefyd trafodaeth amdano 'Talking Mats'.

Turning a problem into an opportunity / Troi problem yn gyfle

Kelly Daniel and Helen Green from See Change at Interlink used their workshop to support learners to deal with problems and give them participatory tools that they could use in the field.

Participants were asked to talk about the problems they face, and their peers were encouraged to support and offer their expertise.

A selection of participatory activities were used that they could use back in their field of work. These included the Brick Wall, Problem Trees and Speak Outs, details of which can be found in the below presentation.

Roedd yna drafodaeth lle gofynnir i’r cyfranogwyr sôn am y problemau a brofwyd ganddynt, ac fe wnaeth eu cymheiriaid eu hannog i’w cynorthwyo ac i rannu eu harbenigedd.

Cafodd detholiad o weithgareddau cyfranogi eu defnyddio, ac fe wnaeth hyn galluogi cyfranogwyr i’w defnyddio yn eu gwaith yn y dyfodol. Roedd y rhain yn cynnwys Wal Bricsen, Coed Problem a ‘Speak Outs’.  Gallwch ffeindio manylion ar rain yn y cyflwyniad uchod.

Multimedia tools for engagement / Dulliau amlgyfrwng ar gyfer ymgysylltiad

Ryan Heeger of CLIC ran this workshop to give participants an understanding of interactive multimedia, using CLIConline.

Ryan introduced the CLIC website and their social networking websites and discussed their role within participation and as multimedia tools. Participants were shown how CLIC’s site content was driven by the needs of young people as they submit their own articles and views. An example of this are the CLICrants, which enable them to share their rants with the world any topic.

Participants then uploaded their own content individually or in pairs to CLIC in real time and shared links through CLIC’s Facebook and Twitter to maximise the potential audience of the article. Caerphilly Youth Forum uploaded a video of the theatre production which raised awareness of raise awareness of the issue of peer pressure with relation to drugs and alcohol.

Dangoswyd sut roedd cynnwys gwefan CLIC yn cael ei siapio gan bobl ifanc a’i anghenion gan fod nhw’n cyflwyno’u herthyglau a’u barn eu hunain. Edrychodd y grŵp ar rantiauCLIC, sy’n galluogi nhw i rannu eu rantiau gyda’r byd ar unrhyw bwnc.

Fe uwchlwythodd cyfranogwyr eu cynnwys eu hun i CLIC yn unigol neu mewn parau yn amser real a rhannwyd dolenni trwy Facebook a Twitter CLIC er mwyn uchafu cynulleidfa posib yr erthygl. Fe wnaeth Fforwm Ieuenctid Caerffili uwchlwytho fideo o gynhyrchiad theatr i godi ymwybyddiaeth o’r pwysau gan gyfoedion pan ddaw at gyffuriau ac alcohol.

Starting Small / Dechrau’n Fach

Heulwen Blackmore from Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW) provided a case study of “growing” an engagement strategy and how this helped influence positive, sustainable change in the organisation.

Participants then had the opportunity to identify an approach to building an engagement strategy, identify solutions to the barriers preventing effective engagement and recognise the influence and benefits service user /stakeholder engagement can have on organisation wide systems and processes.
Fe wnaeth Heulwen Blackmore o Arolygiaeth Gofal a Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol Cymru (AGGCC) arddangos astudiaeth achos o “tyfu” strategaeth ymgysylltu a sut gwnaeth hyn helpu i ddylanwadu ar newid positif a chynaliadwy o fewn y mudiad.

Cafodd cyfranogwyr y cyfle i ganfod dull o adeiladu strategaeth ymgysylltu, canfod atebion a’r rhwystrau sy’n rhwystro ymgysylltiad effeithiol ac i adnabod y dylanwad a budd gall ymgysylltu gyda defnyddwyr / rhanddeiliaid cael ar systemau a phrosesau mudiad cyfan.

Engaging with marginalised and diverse groups / Ymgysylltu gyda grwpiau amrywiol ac sydd wedi’u hymyleiddio

Lynne MacIntyre of the NHS Wales Centre for Equality and Human Rights delivered this workshop, which aimed to provide an opportunity for participants to consider and discuss some of the issues around the involvement of frequently excluded groups.  Participants had the chance to explore general good practice and share experiences and ideas on improving access for “hard to reach” groups.

Participants could explain the importance of taking a flexible approach to involvement, provided examples of general good practice for engagement and could identify potential marginalised and/or vulnerable groups across a local and national communities.
Fe wnaeth Lynne MacIntyre o Ganolfan y GIG ar gyfer Cydraddoldeb a Hawliau Dynol rhedeg y gweithdy yma, ac roedd yn anelu i roi cyfle i gyfranogwyr cysidro a thrafod rhai o’r materion ynghylch cynhwysiad a grwpiau sydd wedi’u hymyleiddio. Cafodd cyfranogwyr y cyfle i archwilio ymarfer da cyffredinol ac i rannu profiadau a syniadau ar wella gallu grwpiau sydd anodd eu cyrraedd i gyrchu gwasanaethau.

Roedd cyfranogwyr yn gallu trafod pwysigrwydd o gael agwedd hyblyg tuag at gynhwysiad, rhoi esiamplau o ymarfer da cyffredinol ar gyfer ymgysylltu ac roedden nhw yn gallu canfod grwpiau potensial a oedd wedi’u hymyleiddio ac /neu yn fregus ar draws cymunedau lleol a chenedlaethol.

Behaviour Change in Engagement / Newid Ymddygiad Mewn Ymgysylltiad

This workshop was delivered by Alexandra Plows and Laura Jones from Wiserd and Jessica Pyket.

The aim of the session was to feedback findings from two major research projects on the issue of behaviour change in Wales. It also looked to engage in ‘knowledge transfer’ whereby findings from these research projects are presented in order to facilitate and catalyse debate amongst workshop participants relating to the implications of behaviour change as they have encountered it in their jobs, and/or relating to their responses to the policy and stakeholder data presented.

By the end of the session participants could relate current Welsh Government policy moves on ‘behaviour change’ to their own ‘patch’ or job remit and to the broader climate of participation in Wales. They could also identify key issues emerging from research findings on the theme of behaviour change across different domains including health and education. Participants could then develop their own perspectives on what ‘behaviour change’ means for them in relation to their ‘patch’.

Bwriad y sesiwn oedd bwydo darganfyddiadau o ddau brosiect ymchwil mawr ar y thema o newid ymddygiad yng Nghymru. Fe wnaeth y sesiwn hefyd edrych i gael cyfranogwyr i gymryd rhan mewn ‘trawsgludo gwybodaeth’ ble wnaeth y darganfyddiadau o’r prosiectau ymchwil yma cael ei chyflwyno er mwyn hwyluso a chataleiddio trafodaeth yn ymwneud â goblygiadau newid ymddygiad rhwng cyfranogwyr y gweithdy a sut maen nhw wedi dod ar ei draws yn ei swyddi, a/neu yn ymwneud a’i ymatebion i’r polisi a data rhanddeiliaid a gafodd ei chyflwyno.

Erbyn diwedd y sesiwn roedd cyfranogwyr yn gallu cysylltu symudiadau polisi cyfredol Llywodraeth Cymru ar ‘newid ymddygiad’ i’w ‘dalgylch’ eu hunain neu gylch gwaith ac i’r hinsawdd ehangach o gyfranogaeth yng Nghymru. Roedden hefyd yn gallu canfod materion allweddol a oedd yn ymddangos o ddarganfyddiadau ymchwil ar y thema o newid ymddygiad ar draws sawl parth gwahanol gan gynnwys iechyd ac addysg. Roedden nhw hefyd yn gallu datblygu eu safbwyntiau eu hunain ar beth oedd ‘newid ymddygiad’ yn meddwl iddyn nhw a sut roedd e’n ymwneud a’u ‘dalgylch’ nhw.
